Camp Mabry Lodging - One of Virginia's Blue Ridge's great treasures is Explore Park, an 1,100-acre destination on Milepost 115 of the Blue Ridge Parkway and located along the Roanoke River in Roanoke County.

Many people enjoy mountain biking (even with children), some like to hike one of the trails, and still others visit the historic buildings. For other outdoor adventures, take advantage of access to the Roanoke River Blueway and the Treetop Quest aerobatics course, including zip lines!

Shucks, some love the park so much they discover it's the perfect setting for a wedding.

Best Things To Do In Virginia

A relatively recent addition to Explore Park is camping and lodging, and now there are more opportunities than ever to get outside and be one with nature.

From the usual RV and primitive campgrounds to amenities like pod cabins and riverside platforms, chances are your ideal campground can be found at Research Park in Roanoke.

Camping at Explore Park is available year-round, with December through March considered "off-season" for the rate schedule.

Curved and reminiscent of a Hobbit house (just not into the side of a hill), the pod huts (pictured at the top of this post) are roomier than you might think. The quadruple cabin has heat and air, and there is also a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. Bed linen is not included but can be rented.

Four Points Centre

Yurts have grown in popularity and are arguably the best accommodation option in Explore Park. Each yurt is complete with bathroom and can accommodate up to six people thanks to a queen-size bed and a three-level twin bunk bed. In the summer you're comfortable with air conditioning and there is a kitchen with a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Bed linen is not provided but can be rented.

Go ahead and pitch a tent for yourself or a group at one of the primitive campgrounds. Each unit has a picnic table and fire pit.

The tree platforms are a great way to take your camping experience in Virginia's Blue Ridge to the next level! Set up your tree house style tent and enjoy the sounds of the nearby Roanoke River.

Linville Falls Campground

The RV sites at Explore Park are 12 by 35 feet and have 50 amps of power. None of the campsites have water or sewage, but there is an outlet nearby that you can tap to fill a pot for cooking or brushing your teeth.

Make the most of your visit to Explore Park by taking advantage of park amenities and leveraging local partnerships.
